Google Cloud Reveals Digital Medical Imaging Suite

Google Cloud has introduced Medical Imaging Suite, and industry solution that aims to make imaging healthcare data more accessible, interoperable, and useful.
 
The number of healthcare images continues to grow, making the workload heavier for radiologists and other healthcare professionals interpreting the images. Google Cloud enables development of artificial intelligence (AI) for imaging to foster faster and more accurate image diagnosis, increase productivity, and improve care access and outcomes.
 
“Google pioneered the use of AI and computer vision in Google Photos, Google Image Search, and Google Lens, and now we’re making our imaging expertise, tools, and technologies available for healthcare and life sciences enterprises,” Alissa Hsu Lynch, Global Lead of Google Cloud’s MedTech Strategy and Solutionstold the press. “Our Medical Imaging Suite shows what’s possible when tech and healthcare companies come together.”
 
Google’s Cloud Healthcare API offers a managed, scalable, enterprise-grade development ecosystem with automated DICOM de-identification. AI-assisted annotation tools from NVIDIA and MONAI help to automate medical image labeling. BigQuery and Looker can be used to view and search petabytes of imaging data, and Vertex AI can accelerate AI pipeline development. Finally, the suite provides flexible options for cloud, on-prem, or edge deployment.
 
Hackensack Meridian Health is beginning to use the Medical Imaging Suite to de-identify petabytes of images with future plans to build AI algorithms to predict metastasis in prostate cancer patients with prostate cancer.

Hologic developed the first CE-marked digital cytology platform for laboratories, which combines a new AI algorithm for cervical cancer screening with advanced volumetric imaging technology. The platform helps identify precancerous lesions and cervical cancer cells in women. Hologic plans on expanding the platform’s capabilities using the Medical Imaging Suite.

Google Cloud’s infrastructure and secure data storage also support HIPAA compliance.
